This article was an interesting take on the "robber barons" of old. Still one has to wonder if the modern equivalent of this group, which I see as large Corporations, Big Oil, Big Pharma, etc., will be as generous and thoughtful? My fear is that they will not. But, for the good of everyone, I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

Howard Zinn is a self proclaimed socialist. No doubt he would offer a honest, trustworthy critique of these capitalists. The simple truth is these men improved the lives of people the entire planet over. These men made the United States the wealthiest, most productive nation the world has ever seen. Men who listen to ideas like that of Howard Zinn have created the nation we now live in - the poorest, most broke nation in history. Fourteen trillion in debt and growing every second. These capitalists created wealth and enriched the entire world - socialists have destroyed and looted. Who are the real Robber Barons?

I read the robber barons by matthew josephson when I was 20, my godfather was a history expert and had the book. Sadly, often and even today great wealth is obtained by brutal means and as if an epiphany strikes, some portion is returned to the public in a biased agenda way. I'm afraid you are leaving out all the known and probably unknown facts of the terrible way in which these resources and commodities were obtained and converted for public consumption - too long to deliberate here, God himself knows the total truth. This good you speak of for society, I've analyzed if business and the aforementioned results were achieved in a much more ethical, moral and Christlike way, far less suffering by humanity would have indeed been the result.

What I don't understand is why their philantropic institutions today seem to overwhelmly support very anti-american, pro-socialist organizations. I will look into Debbie's book, Gatto's Underground History of Education. But being a homeschool family that never enrolled any of my children in the socialist school system that Dewey created. I doubt that I will learn anything new.
