I am gobsmacked that everyone falls for this and believes it is morally right because that poor humans have to work for practically nothing. Yeah maybe it's better than no money, but you agree you wouldn't do it. So human rights would say if you won't why should they. They work in bad conditions, physically manhandled if they can't work fast enough and often are children. Would you be happy if they did away with the education system and decided lets teach them to sew and make things for a few pennies. Well at least their parents can get cheap shoes out of it! They work by choice, they volunteer, yeah or starve. If the UK didn't have min wages and benefits people would still work and take what they get just like these people. I'm not saying suddenly give them huge pay rises, just a little more. Make the conditions better, safer, put in air conditioning or fans, fresh water to drink, breaks, decent hours. Is that really too much. Still keeps our costs down for our cheaper goods.

This article was an interesting take on the "robber barons" of old. Still one has to wonder if the modern equivalent of this group, which I see as large Corporations, Big Oil, Big Pharma, etc., will be as generous and thoughtful? My fear is that they will not. But, for the good of everyone, I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

Howard Zinn is a self proclaimed socialist. No doubt he would offer a honest, trustworthy critique of these capitalists. The simple truth is these men improved the lives of people the entire planet over. These men made the United States the wealthiest, most productive nation the world has ever seen. Men who listen to ideas like that of Howard Zinn have created the nation we now live in - the poorest, most broke nation in history. Fourteen trillion in debt and growing every second. These capitalists created wealth and enriched the entire world - socialists have destroyed and looted. Who are the real Robber Barons?

It's the media. They all portray in the US pretty much that they're bad, when in reality, they give these people a source of income. If you shut down sweatshops, many families will end up worse off and kids will end up rummaging around in trash, some might even get hit by a garbage truck. Parents aspire to have their kids working in shops. Of course, we should work to improve standards, but this idea that "sweatshops" are implicitly bad baffles me a bit. The developing is different, and sweatshops are a necessity.
